Not many people know (or care?) that I’m a Quaker and not many people know what a Quaker even is, though Quakers have been around since the 1650s. The difficulty is that Quakerism means something different to each Quaker and is quite an abstract concept. For me Quakerism is about the soul/spirit/God (or what ever you want to call it) as a part of humanity and that we can all play a part in nurturing it in ourselves and in each other.

I think a lot of people can be put off by some of the terminology these days in our mostly religious cynical culture, I can see that “Meeting for worship” sounds scary, when infact it’s about sitting together in silience (- mostly), reflecting, seeking our spirit and being open to inspiration from others who are moved to speak.
